Where are all the good players?

So, after hearing about Starcraft 2 a week ago, I reinstall Starcraft to get "back into the game" and even help warm-up for SC2.

I'm not aware of WGT/PGT still existing so I play public, knowing certainly well it's very hard to get a good game. I join channel clan x17 and play a few 1v1's there. Clan x17 has a bunch of good and great players that hang around there or pop in from time to time, but most won't play.. they'd rather idle or chat, or want a specific matchup. Anyhow, the few games I did play there I won fairly easily.

So, I went back to hosting public games since it was difficult to get games in X17, and when I did get games, they weren't always too challenging.

And man, public is just horrible. I try my best to weed out all the really bad players, but it's amazing how many bad players are out there, or more amazing how there aren't any good ones.

Now, I'm not a good player. I mean, I'm half-decent, but I'm by no means awesome or anything. Back when I used to play WGT or PGTour and all those, I was around a C-/C 1v1 player and a C+/B- 2v2 player. So don't mistake me for somebody who thinks they're pro or anything. I'm just an average half-decent player.

I love playing 2v2's, which is why I'm playing so much public, but I can't get any good games going.

So where has SC evolved to these days, then? Where are all the good players?

I think what you are experiencing is a game that is ten years old. All the good players have moved on to the other hip new games out there. I don't think you'll have to worry about this problem when SC2 comes out, because all the good players will return for the latest and greatest. Trust me, I know some good players that are simply just doing other things right now.

That's partly true I'll agree. Many good SC players made the exodus to poker, but even so, isn't it unnatural for there to be such a shortage of decent players?

I mean seriously, it's a hunt to be able to get a decent 2v2 LT or heaven forbid other map such as Gaema Gowon, going...

There are tens of thousands of players playing SC at any given time on B.Net, yet it's difficult to get a half-decent game going!

True. Maybe you just need to join a clan yourself, and get in on the private games with all the hidden good players facing the same problem you are.
What I mean is, the good players out there are probably as annoyed as you by the lack of good players out there, so they make private games and invite friends of theirs that they know are good.

Yeah.... only I really don't like the clan environment. It's usually a lot of immature guys just talking about smoking pot and stuff... it's more a mini discussion group of the day's events than anything else.

Plus, I find clans are on either end of the spectrum; the are either too good and you can't make it in, or they are too bad and you don't want it, heh.

oh? You saying I'm afraid?
Yeah, actually I am pretty bad too. I haven't played in ages. The game I got good as hell at was red alert 2. That game owned.
But I haven't play SC in ages, you would probably kick my ass.
