well thats why the koreans and chinese are able to make money in SC, those professional players sit around and play 12-14 hours a day, with generally 1 day off, if that. so in reality that is their job. its just like any other profession, you work hard and get paid for it. they get paid for playing a video game, which is kind of silly, but if i could get paid doing that i know i would. i mean look at professional baseball/football/hockey ect any sport. they get paid MAD money to play games, granted they are over paid, but its all a game.

Anyways I'm not here to argue with you, just giving my two cents on it. Those players definitely are talented and some of them make more than I ever will I'm sure.

Maybe I can randomly become uber good at SC2 for no reason at all and compete for money? *fingers crossed*
Start watching some the professional replays and you'll start to see why it is a sport. The spectacle of Starcraft is amazing and leaves you scratching your head. Not only that, it is probably one of the most interesting sports out there. I find watching SC replays more exciting than most mainstream sports. It is really strange but these guys are so good that once you get a appreciation for how the game works you really start to appreciate these "athletes." The first games that got me hooked on watching professional starcraft were english commentaries done by CholeraSC on youtube. I watched the 2001 OSL finals between Boxer and Yellow and since then I've been an addict. Yes it is nerdy, but nerds need heroes too! By the way there are way more nerds in the world than "cool" people, and most cool people are secretly nerdy.
