Post Colossus

The Colossus has been added to the official site.

http://www.starcraft2.com/features/protoss/index.xml?tab=colossus

I was pretty impressed when I saw this for the first time in the gameplay video. I would like to see what it looks like when someone masses these and sends them across the map marching over all the terrain.

I wonder what kind of stats it will have. I think in the gameplay videos it appears fairly weak against attacks (ground and air). Maybe this will be offset by its damage capability? Also, it's clear that it is built to take care of a large number of smaller weaker units (similar to the carrier), but what about buildings. I could picture a group of colossi being either very effective at taking buildings out together or very poor at it, but nothing in the middle.

Anyways, these forums seem to be all but dead. Just trying to spark up some more discussions.

Good dmg vs buildings I think, but it will be hard to get them top the enemy base I think, theyll be too exposed to air attacks and a bunch of goons could take them out (not to mention what counters will Z & T have). I think it can be used more effectively for defense.

As a target is destroyed, the lances are switched to a new target instantly so that a colossus' beam cuts a fiery swathe of destruction through multiple enemies with each firing cycle.
:O new type of splash damage! (Right?)

I don't think it's a new type of damage. Rather just a really fast target switching attack.

To be honest, I fail to see the Colossus as being useful. The Reaver is 10x better at its job, but I guess the Colossus can walk up and down cliffs and such. I'd still pick a Reaver and a shuttle (aka phase prisms) over the Colossus anyday.

Pretty good point, this was sort of the roll the reaver played. I don't know if we can say the reaver is BETTER as none of us has played with a Colossus yet...but it'll be interesting to see if the reaver sticks around and in what role.

Yeah, but if it were 2 reavers instead of 2 colossus in that demo, the Zerglings would be dead A LOT faster. Especially if people aimed the scarabs to go off where they'd do most damage.

Well, again, I think it's hard to make assumptions about what reavers from SC1 would have done to zerglings from SC2. We're using knowledge from one game that may not apply anymore.
